Choosing the just right book is important to learning how to read. A just right book keeps your child interested so she will want to find out what happens next! They are perfect Cover-to -Cover Reads. Find out more about Cover-to-Cover Reads here!

Beginning Readers:

1. How long? Choose a book you can complete cover to cover in about 20 minutes.

2. How hard? Find a page, and read it. If there are more than 2 words on the page you need help with, choose another book. If you can easily read all the words, just enjoy!

3. How interesting? Look at the pictures on the cover and in the book. Read the title and theflap. Does the cover, blurb, and pictures make you want to read it?

 

Intermediate Readers:

1. How long? Choose a book you can complete in 1-2 days. Use a bookmark to hold your place when you take a break.

2. How hard? Find a page and read it. If there are more than 3 words on the page you need help with, choose another book.

3. How interesting? Look at the pictures on the cover and in the book. Read the title and the flap. Does the cover, blurb, and pictures make you want to read it? Read the first few pages, do you want to find out what happens next?

 

Advanced Readers:

1. How long? Choose a book you can complete in about a week. Use a bookmark to hold your place when you take a break.

2. How hard? Find a page and read it. If there are more than 3 words on the page you need help with, choose another book.

3. How interesting? Look at the cover and title. Read the blurb the flap or back cover. Does the cover, title, and blurb make you want to read it? Read the first few pages, do you want to find out what happens next?

 

Ask the Librarian to help you! Tell the librarian about a favorite book or genre. Ask about what is new. Visit a book recommendation site. Read book reveiws on book sales sites.
